You know Prince loves it...

So let's have some controversy.

This is a discussion that came up today and I found myself with a strange stance on. Since Canada is affected by almost everything America does, yet has no voice in American politics, should Canada just give it up and join the US? Keep in mind, if we did this you could pretty much bet on a Democrat president in 2008. (Mark Warner for prez! He's a sexy Dem bitch!)
On the downside, we'd be Americans. Icky I know, but at least we wouldn't be the pissy nextdoor neighbour who sits around moralizing but doesn't have the power to do anything about anything.

What's everyone's thoughts on this? Please try to keep the patriotism-drenched freak outs to a min. Thanks.

i might actually fight with violence against a decision like this. NO NO NO, ad naseum, infinitum, whatev, etc. our country is cooler and at the very least we shouldn't let them have any of our cool. they don't deserve it. different histories, different culture, people, land, etc. NO way. eff them. we've worked for it. altho i will help how i can to influence them for a democratic vote. fo F N sho.

Remember what I said about patriotic venom?? See, we're not all that different, and were we are different, we're cooler. (In that we're more liberal and tolerant, etc.) So if we joined them, our cool lib'ness would in theory rub off on them. AND, we could actually influence their decisions so maybe, just maybe, Sue Johansen would be able to prevent 80-some percent of US abortion clinics from giving out false information such as "abortions increase your risk of cervical cancer by 80%. Not a great example, but still.
Also, viva Mark Warner!

yeah, i think it would take an unreasonable amount of time for our coolness to rub off-- because i think it took a long time for Canada to get cool. all the positive change would indeed be cool. i think helping with campaigning would be best. sorry, i have a hard time keeping my patriotism in my pants.

We'd just be another frowned-upon blue state. And they'd be even more annoyed by our moralising if we were one with them, as we'd then be unpatriotic, which is worse than anti-American. At least as foreigners they think we don't know any better.

ps - Dude, I turn my back for a few days and you change templates and post three times. I ... uh, I'm not going anywhere with that. Er ... viva Mark Warner.
